What Is Pilates

"Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness. In order to achieve happiness, it is imperative to gain mastery of your body. If at the age of 30 you are stiff and out of shape, you are old. If at 60 you are supple and strong, then you are young.”

– Joseph Pilates

Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. His goal was to realise each person’s physical capabilities and limitations alongside prescribing exercises to correct their muscular imbalances and weaknesses through a system of exercises which were intended to strengthen the human mind and body. His belief was that mental and physical health are inter-related.

As it is a total mind and body conditioning method, Pilates can make you look and feel better. It relieves stress and tension and promotes a feeling of well-being while expanding body awareness. Poor posture, the way we move and muscular imbalances can lead to pain and injury. By targeting the deep abdominal and spinal muscles Pilates aims to improve overall core stability and posture and correct the muscle imbalances through exercise.

It is our goal at One One One Pilates that after regularly attending sessions you notice greater mobility, increased flexibility, and a strengthening of your core muscles around your abdomen and lower back as well as a sense of spiritual well-being.

How to Start at 111 Pilates

Pilates is a complicated and precise method of training.  It creates a strong core, good posture and muscle awareness.

If you are new to Pilates our recommendation is to attend 2 private foundation sessions as set out below.  This will ensure that our journey together gets off to the best possible start and will enable you to attend all of our classes and use all of our equipment.

If you interest lies only with mat-work you might prefer to select option 2.

If you are new to Pilates we have 2 options to get you started
OPTION 1 (Recommended)
2X PRIVATE FOUNDATION SESSIONS

These 2 one hour private sessions will give you the skills and knowledge for you to join our Matwork and Reformer classes. Your instructor will cover the principles and exercises of Pilates and give you an understanding of your posture. The benefit of this option is that the sessions are tailor made for you and can be booked at your convenience.

OPTION 2
ESSENTIAL MAT-WORK CLASS
£17 PER CLASS
(£72.5 for five classes OR £135 for ten classes)

We require anyone new to Pilates to attend our Essential matwork class. This class covers the principles and essential exercises of Pilates and is also great for those who would like to brush up on their technique.

You will need to do a minimum of 3 Essential mat-work classes before attending any of our other mat-work classes. These classes do not prepare you for attending our reformer classes, where an additional private foundation session, focusing on the Reformer or attending an Essential Reformer class would be necessary.

For Those Experienced in Pilates

If you have done Pilates before, but have not done a class with us at One One One Pilates, we recommend you do an hour private foundation session.  This will give us an opportunity to understand your goals and objectives, discuss and existing injuries / health concerns and introduce you to the equipment we provide in our classes.

If you only want to practice mat-work you can attend 1 Essential mat-work class before attending our other mat classes.

Class sizes are intentionally small to ensure personal, tailored interaction with our trainers and maximum benefit to our clients.

All our rooms can be used for one-to-one and two-to-one person sessions for a complete personalised programme of fitness

Tailored to You

Our studio is dedicated to providing a comprehensive range of Pilates and fitness services designed to suit all fitness levels, regardless of your experience or age. We also offer Private sessions, where you can enjoy the privacy and personalized attention of a one-on-one session, tailored to your specific needs and goals.
