Class Descriptions

Essential/Intermediate matwork

This class develops on from the principles learnt in the essential matwork class. Building on the essential exercises and introducing some of the intermediate ones, by adding more challenge through choreography and pace, it continues to develop body awareness with physical challenge.

 

It is necessary to attend three Essential matwork classes or a private foundation before booking onto our Essential/Intermediate matwork class.

Matwork Classes

Essential matwork

A great starting point for beginners, people who are recovering from an injury or those wanting to fine-tune their technique. The Essential Matwork class teaches the basic principles of pilates, and builds a foundation of exercises required to move on to the next level. Props may be incorporated to add variety. Participants are welcome to stay in the Essential Matwork class until they feel confident enough to enter the Essential/Intermediate class. .

Intermediate matwork

A brilliant workout, when you've learnt the basics and know what you're doing in Pilates. Intermediate matwork is a dynamic class offering more challenge for when you have mastered your technique. Using a variety of small equipment to add more challenge.


A good knowledge of Pilates is necessary and you should be injury free.

Cardio Pilates

This class will challenge your Pilates training while giving you a cardio workout. The class is a circuit based class and will use various pieces of equipment including the cardio tramp on the reformer and the Halo. It is an intermediate level class.

 

Due to its faster pace this class is focused to those with a good experience of Pilates.

Post-natal pilates
 

This class is suitable for women who have had their 6 week post-natal check-up and babies up to one year old are also welcome to accompany you. Focus is on improving the condition of both your abdominal and pelvic floor muscles without placing strain on the joints or back. It will in fact strengthen the back, the stomach and the muscles around the pelvic area – allowing for a quicker recovery.  The class is on the Reformer which is a great to focus on the muscles effected by pregnancy.

No previous experience of Pilates is necessary.

Active Ageing

A Pilates class tailored specifically for the more mature exerciser. It helps improve postural problems; increases core strength and stability; helps prevent injuries; improves balance, coordination and circulation; heightens body awareness; and has a low impact on the joints. Age is just a number – there is no minimum or maximum age for this class. Class capacity is eight participants.

 

Attending three Essential matwork classes or a private foundation is a pre-requisite before booking onto the Active Ageing matwork class.

Reformer Classes

Essential reformer

This class introduces the Reformer, the most popular piece of Pilate's equipment. Learn how to set up the reformer and methods of adjusting the pulleys as you master the proper technique required to build core strength, stability and mind-body awareness. Like the Essential matwork class, this class provides an energising total-body workout. Participants are welcome to stay in the Essential classes until they feel confident enough to enter the Essential/Intermediate class.

 

This class is suitable for those who are moving on to reformer after attending at least 3 matwork classes or those who have done two Private Foundations.

Essential/Intermediate reformer

This class is a step up from the Essential reformer level and continues to build on endurance and core strength while improving coordination and flexibility.


You are required to attend at least 3 Essential reformer classes or 2 Private Foundation’s prior to attending an Essential/Intermediate reformer class.

Intermediate reformer

This class moves on the intermediate exercises adding challenge through choreography and pace.

It is essential to have a good understanding of the Reformer before trying this class.

Intermediate/Advanced reformer

Reformer class with intermediate and advanced exercises. Intermediate reformer knowledge is essential for this class.


You must be injury free and experienced in Pilates to join this class.

Cardio Tramp class 

Cardio-Tramp™ is a low-impact, high-energy Reformer workout that is ideal for all fitness levels and backgrounds.



If you are new to the Studio it is necessary to complete at least three Essential Reformer classes or two Private Foundation sessions before joining this class, although due to its faster pace is best suited to those with experience of Pilates. If you do have an injury check with your instructor beforehand.

Equipment Classes

Equipment Class

Using a range of equipment this class will be tailored for you. With a maximum capacity 3 people, every client will have a level of attention more similar to a private session. Different levels of workout will allow the instructor to work on what you need the most: strengthen your core, lengthen your muscles, increase your resilience and stability, challenge your balance or gently exercising for your post-rehabilitation.


You need to do a private before entering this class.

Pre-natal equipment

All women want to be in good physical condition as they approach the birth of their baby. Pilates offers a gentle, structured discipline that prepares women for the physical demands of giving birth. Not only will Pilates improve muscle strength and flexibility to minimise back injury, it also allows prenatal women, who may avoid other forms of exercise, to maintain a healthy and well-toned body for this important time of their life. This specialized class caters to expectant mums in their first, second and third trimester. This intimate equipment based class focuses on maintaining good posture, muscle tone and overall mobility throughout pregnancy. Specialised instruction will ensure your Pilates programme is safe, targeted and effective during the course of your pregnancy.


Class capacity is four participants. Groups are kept small to ensure that each expectant mother benefits from close observation.

Active Ageing Equipment

This is a specialized class for those wishing to remain physically active in later life. The use of equipment such as the Reformer, Cadillac and Stability Chair allow for great versatility with the main benefits being increased body awareness, muscle strength, range of motion, balance and co-ordination.

 

Maximum 3 per class.

 

Attending two Private Foundations is a pre-requisite before booking onto the Active Ageing equipment class.

Intermediate Active Ageing Equipment

This class is for people who have been doing the active ageing equipment class for a while and have an understanding of how to use the machines. Therefore giving them more of a challenge.

Any classes or appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will incur the full charge.
